Partnering with a long-standing client in the search for a Commissioning Engineer specialising in refrigeration systems. This role is responsible for the commissioning, testing, and technical verification of marine refrigeration systems on both newbuild and in-service vessels. The position acts as the technical authority on site during commissioning phases, ensuring systems are delivered safely, to specification, and in line with project and quality requirements.
Responsibilities
- Execute commissioning and functional testing of marine refrigeration plants, including chillers, brine systems, and pump stations.
- Set up, validate, and inspect refrigeration installations on board vessels in accordance with approved technical specifications.
- Ensure all commissioning activities comply with applicable maritime health and safety regulations.
- Diagnose system faults and performance issues, escalating non-conformities to engineering and management teams.
- Serve as the on-site technical lead for commissioning activities, coordinating closely with project and design teams.
- Provide technical feedback to support final design validation, system configuration, and scope alignment when required.
- Plan and manage commissioning activities to meet agreed schedules and milestones.
- Produce clear progress and commissioning reports.
- Ensure all works meet defined quality standards and acceptance criteria.
Requirements
- Minimum 7 years’ experience in refrigeration engineering or commissioning.
- Proven hands-on experience with HFC refrigeration systems; CO₂ systems experience is an advantage.
- Strong working knowledge of Bitzer screw compressors and electronically controlled expansion valves (EEV).
- Demonstrated capability configuring air coolers and refrigeration control systems.
- Solid understanding of electrical control panels and system interfaces.
- F-Gas certification required.
- High level of technical competence across refrigeration systems of varying capacities and configurations.
- Fluent written and spoken English.
- Knowledge of USPHS and VSP construction requirements is beneficial.
